Sonas House
Located in the heart of the Cambridgeshire Green Belt the site was previously home to a small bungalow.
The new house is inspired by simple rural structures and is framed and clad in sustainable timber, stained black to recede into its landscape setting. The design doubles the area of the original bungalow – but appears as a single storey from the road rising to two storey’s facing the rear garden and the landscape beyond. A variety of spaces are carved out within the simple volume with each space enjoying framed views into the garden.
The main structure is formed from prefabricated timber panels, chosen for reasons of cost and speed of installation – the panels were erected in 3 just days. The flexible layout has since been easily adapted and extended as the family has grown.
